Star Wars - Character Badges

i

These are kind of cheating, as they're just the old digital sketch cards I did a while back, but come on....Ackbar looks hilarious. Bossk looks pretty cool too, and Ghost Yoda is always awesome.

These were just for fun.

Star Wars - Ghost Kenobi Badge

i

LAST BADGE to be submitted!

A new take on the ghost of Ben Kenobi.

Star Wars - Dagobah Badge

i

Next badge!!

Luke and Yoda training in the murky swamps of Dagobah.

One more left as of now.

Star Wars - Starkiller Badge

i

Another TFN badge contest submission. Two more to come!

Starkiller from the recent illustration I've done.

Star Wars - Han and Leia Badge

i

Here's one of my submissions for TheForce.net's Celebration V badge contest. This is an additional illustration to the banner that is to come (soon!).

Revisions to come later (perspective and Leia's expression need work), trying to crank out as many of these as i can!

More Stars to Kill

i

Starkiller returns! New Force Unleashed II trailer blew my mind, and I loved it so much, I had to replicate one of the more bad-ass shots.

Can't wait for e3!

Character Study - Scout

i

Her name's Tallisibeth "Scout" Enwandung-Esterhazy. Whew, that's a mouthful!

So, some of you may be familiar with this character. She made an appearance in a Clone Wars novel years and years ago (I think, back in 2004?) called Dark Rendezvous, starring Yoda. Her connection to the force is weaker than other padawans, but she makes up for it by being extremely cunning and exceptionally athletic. She earned herself the nickname "Scout" for such traits.

Anyway, she's the 4th and final Jedi in my band of heroes for my upcoming story that I'll be submitting to Dark Horse this year. She's actually the only character of this group that I haven't created. I just loved the character so much and was sad to see her role in the SW universe fizzle out after her first appearance. I thought it was important to start ironing out her appearance since she's pretty pivotal, and so far I've only focused on the other Jedi in Sean's class.

Hope you guys dig her Leia bun-inspired hair!

Killer of Stars

i

Soooo been working on this since I finished Dash Rendar....Sorta iffy about the background. Happy with how Starkiller came out though! Haven't forgotten about the Art Trades! Wanted to get this out of the way so I could move on to those.

Kota and Apprentice

i

My half of the art trade for Sandal Crusader. AND LAST TRADE! All done =) She asked for Rahm Kota and his apprentice (her creation, not Galen Malek!). Using the source image she gave me of the apprentice, I did the best I could to figure out a scenario to have them together. I put them both in Clone armor, and stuck them in a forest. They're being tracked down by Black Sun, for some reason! I'm actually not sure if her apprentice's story takes place before or after the Clone Wars, so this was a guessed possible scenario! I tried to link the two together. I replicated the phoenix-looking tattoo on her apprentice's shoulders onto the armor of both Kota and the apprentice. I also tried to keep the color schemes for both, as if they'd dress similarly. They're both wearing similar armor/cloaks. Also, Kota's protecting an injured clone...maybe this is the reason he finds clones inferior to people! ;) Anyway, I had a lot of fun with this one. I have my own nitpicks but all in all, I really enjoyed this one, especially drawing Kota. Was a blast! I hope she digs! You can find her inking sweetness here

Dash Rendar - Beggar's Canyon

i

My favorite non-Jedi, Dash Rendar! Mostly because of the bad-ass Shadows of the Empire video game from the good ol' N64 days. Hope you all dig!

Just Another Day - Kyle Katarn

i

Felt like doing a Kyle piece...not much to say! I'm pretty sure Dash Rendar's up next... Pencils, Inked in Illustrator, Colored in Photoshop.

Kit Fisto - Crest Smile

i

Kit for fun. Inked in Flash -- My first Flash endeavor! Just for fun/practice.

Cheeks Week 8 - Corrections

i

Sooooooo, this week is SUPPOSED to be color choices, but because I'm a big ol' dumby who misunderstood the assignment LAST week, Sean gave me and some others a chance to pick up the slack from last week this week IN ADDITION to the color. So we're creating 3 new backgrounds and character poses from scratch, and coloring one of the 3.

I won't point out the name of the other genius (COUGH COUGH COUGH), but needless to say, we've got double the work to do this week, and I won't be coloring this one anytime soon. But it's definitely on the to-do list.

However, I DO love the 3 concepts for each character I've come up with. This one is based off an idea Sean threw out for my critique on how to improve this field background. The angle is much more interesting for the scene I wanted to depict.

You can check out Sean "Cheeks" Galloway's phenomenal work here.

Cheeks Week 8 - Corrections 2

i

Third background and pose!

Wasn't supposed to color another, but I did wanna tone it so that the sliced through wall would read well. After toning it, I ended up slapping a gradient on a layer, set to color, and toned down the opacity. I liked the result! Peil's lunging at some poor average Stormtrooper. Sucks to be that trooper!

You can check out Sean "Cheeks" Galloway's phenomenal work here.

Cheeks Week 8 - Color

i

SO. This is my piece for the color portion of this week.

I'm not sure what Sean is going to say about this one. Sean took us through his color schemes, and while I think it works for him, my coloring is really different. He likes to use saturation to focus on characters, but I do other things!

My thought process here is that since the disguised Rodian Jedi "Pointy", as he's affectionately been nicknamed, is on the seedy underworld moon Nar Shaadda. It's filled with lot's of bright neon-type lights, and destaturating the background simply wasn't working. So I let the lights tell the story. The building lights, highlights, hologram, and stroke around Pointy help the eye to keep moving around the piece. I also refrained from the use of texture and noise on Pointy to help him pop out a bit more. Finally, I did my best to keep the composition circular so that the eye wouldn't get too stuck. And YES, that's a wanted poster for fellow Jedi-on-the-run, Peil! While I still think this panel needs a little work, I have to throw in the towel for now and move on to background 3.

You can check out Sean "Cheeks" Galloway's phenomenal work here.

Cheeks Week 7 - Putting It Together

i

WEEK 7 AHHHHHH. Two to go!

Enjoyed this one too. While I didn''t get to make too many corrections from past weeks, I took it upon myself to make a lot of color changes for the old backgrounds, and color the poses from the previous weeks. I also added a "Peil in bed" pose just because none of the others fit the indoor background. His pose is a little wonky...but I like the colors, at least!

Basically, I just didn''t have all the time I needed to knock this one out of the park (on top of my usual crazy schedule, New York just got 17 inches of snow over the past two days! LOTS OF SHOVELING) . I was unable to go back and make all the corrections to the character poses and backgrounds that Sean suggested (except for background 1, I made all the changes he suggested back in week 2!).

GO SEE SEAN'S WORK, YOU SILLY WEINER.

Cheeks Week 6 - Expressions 1

i

WEEK 6!! AHHH!! The fun is almost to a close. =( This is part 1 of 3. We have to come up with three expressions for each of the 3 characters we've been working on so far, and then take those three and exaggerate them further. From left to right: Content/Happy, Annoyed/Angry, and Worried/Afraid. I thought these would be a good exercise for Boi since I've drawn him mostly content, so it was kinda cool to see him with opposite extreme expressions! Peil and Pointy to follow soon! You can check out Sean "Cheeks" Galloway's phenomenal work here.

Cheeks Week 6 - Expressions 2

i

This is part 2 of 3. We have to come up with three expressions for each of the 3 characters we've been working on so far, and then take those three and exaggerate them further. For this one, I decided to draw the extremes first...dunno why! From left to right: Furious/Angry, Totally Exhausted/Fatigued, and FREAKING OUT/Alarmed. This one was tough! I had a lot of cool ideas to make Pointy's face really expressive but had a tough time. I tried to make his snout, bulb eyes, antennas, and ears really change a lot. ON A SIDENOTE: I realize the position of the head against the bodies are boring for the extremes. To save time, I drew the same shoulders/torso and duplicated it for 6 of them. This way, I could focus my time on the expressions. Peil should hopefully be up tonight! You can check out Sean "Cheeks" Galloway's phenomenal work here.

Cheeks Week 6 - Expressions 3

i

This is part 3 of 3. We have to come up with three expressions for each of the 3 characters we've been working on so far, and then take those three and exaggerate them further. From left to right: Content/Happy, Alarmed/Freaked Out, & Angry/OMG PISSED OFF SITH EYES! This was probably the quickest and easiest set, but I still had a flippin BLAST doing it. I think the Sith Eyes expression needs a little work, but other than that, I'm really happy with the other 5. I'll have to see what Sean thinks! Any suggestions in the meantime? That's all for this week's assignment, folks! You can check out Sean "Cheeks" Galloway's phenomenal work here.

Cheeks Class - Piel 1

i

Peil in alternate costume! I like this one because he's got modified Senate Commando armor. The senate is what he's fighting to protect after Order 66, so I thought that was a cool little addition. More to come soon! Full assignment here.

Cheeks Class - Boi 1

i

Boi pose # 1 colored! I have so much fun coloring him, he's easily my favorite color palette out of all my Star Wars characters. THIS is the pose I've been itching to draw him in, since I based his entire character design and personality after Buddha. More to come soon! Full assignment here.

Cheeks Class 5 - Posing

i

Week 5: Posing - We need to do 3 exaggerated poses, 3 calmer/relaxed poses, and one interactive pose. Naturally, the interacting pose is some poor clone getting his arm sliced off. Expect to see these colored over the next few days! You can check out Sean "Cheeks" Galloway's phenomenal work here.

Cheeks Class 4 - Character 1

i

WEEK 4: So we have to design 2 characters and one room using props so that when you look at the character, you know exactly who/what they are. We also have to design a room made up of props too so you can tell what kind of character resides in it. The second character has to be a postal worker, or delivery person of some sort. This will be tough for me! The other character is anything we want. So, as you can probably tell (even though there's a title), we have a Twi'lek bar waittress here. Or at least, I hope you can tell! I feel like the tray with booze should be the giveaway.... Anyway! She'll be making a brief appearance in my upcoming comic. I thought it would be a good opportunity to flesh her out AND to draw girls. I suck at drawing chicks, so it's a great opportunity for Cheeks to really help me out with that hopefully! Hope you guys like her! And to anyone that doesn't like her waist: I don't care! XD

Cheeks Class 4 - Character 2

i

WEEK 4: So we have to design 2 characters and one room using props so that when you look at the character, you know exactly who/what they are. We also have to design a room made up of props too so you can tell what kind of character resides in it. This is the 'postman/delivery' type guy. Not sure how I feel about him, but the assignment is due so far from now that I may take another stab at it later. I like the concept though. Instead of letters, the alien postman delivers holo-messages! Pretty cool, I think! However, I feel like the overall design is just a bit 'meh'. We'll see. Maybe I'll return to it after I do the room assignment, and make some corrections on older ones.

Cheeks Class - SW Char Revised

i

Revision of my Week 1 assignment! For the Rodian Jedi, Sean wanted a more clearly-defined silhouette, so he suggested this great wirey figure. When posing him later on, I'll be sure to keep that square, stubborn feeling with him. Same problem with the blue Jedi, his silouette was a bit mucky and his shoes weren't in the correct perspective. I also decided to give him a bit of a design on his robes. Our last character's pose needed a bit of work too. The head was too low, his right (our left) forearm was too small, his left wrist looked unnaturally tilted, and his left heal's been corrected so that he's balanced -- All suggestions from Cheeks! I think he looks so much better now. So much better that I decided to throw in a cool secondary light source for fun! Loving this class so far!!! And I'm loving watching everyone's crits and seeing their work. It's an honor to learn alongside these artists! Really professional-looking work. You can find the first version here: http://xjapanrox.deviantart.com/art/Cheeks-Class-SW-Characters-144557093 - You can check out Sean "Cheeks" Galloway's phenomenal work here

Cheeks Class - Background 1

i

INORGANIC BACKGROUND. So I'm submitting this here a bit early. Not sure how loose we're supposed to keep the backgrounds this week, but the other two I submit will be sketchy-ish with some rough flat colors...Anyway. This is Harnaidan, a city on the planet of Muunilinst. You may remember this city from the Genndy Tartakovski Clone Wars series around the time Episode III came out. Part of my Clone Wars story takes place on Muunilinst, so I thought this assignment would be a cool opportunity to do some studies of that location. Again, this is for Sean "Cheeks" Galloway's Portfolio class on Schoolism.com . You can check out his mind-blowing work here

Cheeks Class - Background 2

i

EDIT: Finally got around to some Cheeks suggestions! This one had some minor tweaks, so I included a before and after. The cliff on the left was given some more height, and a lot of grass in the foreground to make the depth more obvious. Also, decided to push the sky and clouds a little bit greener. This is an alien planet, afterall, and I felt like the first one looked a little too much like earth. ORGANIC BACKGROUND. So I'm submitting this here a bit early. I really didn't know how to approach this one as my Star Wars story doesn't really have any all-organic backgrounds....but I did a study of a field on Muunilist. Here it is....Be gentle! Again, this is for Sean "Cheeks" Galloway's Portfolio class on Schoolism.com . You can check out his mind-blowing work here

Cheeks Class - Background 3

i

ORGANIC + INORGANIC BACKGROUND. So I'm submitting this here a bit early. For better or for worse, here's my third background. I'm not crazy about the execution, but I like the colors, and the concept. Hopefully Cheeks can steer me in the right direction for this one! Again, this is for Sean "Cheeks" Galloway's Portfolio class on Schoolism.com . You can check out his mind-blowing work here

Yoda: Rules of Engagement

Promo Posteri

"Promo Poster" of a project I may or may not finish. Hopefully I do!

Yoda: Rules of Engagement

1 of 8i

Well, after a year of sitting on the drafting table, I'm finally forcing myself to do my 8-page short story revolving around everyone's favorite little Jedi, Yoda.

This is also my way of saying -- I am still hard at work at becoming a Star Wars artist. Once my classes are over, you're going to be seeing a LOT of portfolio work! Thanks for all the support and I hope you enjoy Yoda's adventure!

Star Wars Zombies: Week 1

i

My little group of Jedi fighting clone zombies! I came up with the idea literally before starting a totally different one, and liked the idea of them all fighting zombie clones before order 66 (hence Timo over there being alive)...so order 66 isn't the first time they fight clones! By the way -- Peil's pose is totally taken from the Samurai Jack DVD season 3 cover. Don't wanna come off like I'm stealin it! But I loved that pose. Hope ya dig. Click here for the Week 1 art jam.

Art Trade: Derek Makoto

i

Art trade for Sakiko-Art! Not sure if this is exactly what she was expecting from me, but after doing some digging and checking out her other pictures of the character, he seemed a bit animalistic...so I ran with it! Really hope she likes it! You can find Sakiko-Art's work here.

Maul and Morn

i

More art trades! This one was a request from Nemonus. It's everybody's favorite prequel sithlord, and her own original character Morn. I tried to do a little digging on her page for some back story of the 'relationship' the two had in her fan story, and it seems like there was a little awkward tension there. I figured Tatooine would be a good setting for an awkward moment, as it's pretty barren. For some reason, it seemed like a good idea. Anyway, as with most of my trades, I made some stylistic changes for her character to fit my drawing style. I really hope she doesn't mind the minor costume adjustments! This piece was a lot of fun. Hope Nemonus digs! I also have to give a shout-out to JAVAS - http://javas.deviantart.com - because I love the way he draws clouds and really wanted to try it out for this piece. Hope he doesn't mind my thievery! You can check out Nemonus' work here

Yoda Study

i

My first time inking with Illustrator! I like using it more than I thought I would. Did this study at work to kill some time. Just thought I'd share since I haven't been doing much art! Illustrator & Photoshop. Yoda's © Lucasfilm and all that fun stuff.

Clone Wars

Cover i

Well, for better or for worse, here's the cover. I'm considering doing the shading how the rest of the fire scenes are, but it really doesn't even look like it needs it to me. Plus, I inked it digitally as opposed to traditionally, so I sort of like that the cover stands out from the rest of the comic. Hope you all dig.

Clone Wars

3 of 21 i

For reasons I'd rather not get into, I've decided not to post the entire 21 page Clone Wars comic. But, I'm posting the last few pages. Hopefully this doesn't let anyone down. Enjoy what's up, though!

Clone Wars

Back cover i

Down to the wire, folks. The Clone Wars comic NEEDS to be done by May 1st, and you can rest assured that it will be. Here's the back cover-- I needed to get something out of my system that wasn't the same style. I'm not sure how I feel about it. It's a bit wonkier than originally intended, but I WAS going for wonky-ish. So mission accomplished?

Aayla Secura

i

Hot Chicks + Lightsabers = A dream come true for nerds like me. I needed some practice away from my commission work, so I drew, inked, and colored the beautiful Amy Allen as Aayla Secura today. The force is strong with this one.

Rescue Operation

i

So I was inspired to do some homage to my man, Genndy Tartokovsky. My apologies if I butchered his name. Anyway, it's the opening scene of Chapter 21 of the Clone Wars cartoons. A Gunship full'a baddass ARC Troopers are racing against time to rescue the remaining Jedi battling it out with General Grievous. Penciled, Scanned, Photoshopped.

Elegy - A New Hope

i

For the Elegy piece, I made the choice to stick to my cartoony style but still render it more than I normally would. The setting is inside Ben KenobiÕs hut on Tatooine from Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope. Although a part of elegy is a longing for a life that never was (which I would have depicted with Luke staring at the twin suns, from earlier in the film). The reason I chose this scene is because it represents two aspects of elegy instead of one. This scene is when Old Ben reminisces about the past, telling Luke of how he and LukeÕs father fought together in the Clone Wars, and also speaks gravely how Vader hunted down the remaining JediÉa result of the apocalypses touched on earlier. Clearly, Ben is mourning the loss of the past, referring to the present as the 'Dark Times.' Another aspect of Elegy in this scene was of hope. Luke is literally the title of the film; HeÕs the new hope. The moment Ben gives him AnakinÕs old lightsaber and Luke sees the message of his sister (not knowing itÕs his twin) pleading for help, the events that change the galaxy are set into motion. The final push was for LukeÕs family to be murdered by the Empire.

Apocalypse - Skywalker's End

i

I decided for the Apocalypse piece, I needed to break free of my 'cartoony' style. Anakin Skywalker had now become Darth Vader, and the scarred remains of him needed to be gritty and disgusting for the piece. More machine than man (definitely tones of mecha here), what was left of the flesh was a charred reminder of his defeat at the hands of Obi-Wan Kenobi. Everything Anakin/Vader had strived for was gone, and it was this climactic moment of Star Wars Episode III when his emergency surgery was completed that the audience could truly feel the pain of Anakin SkywalkerÕs personal apocalypse. The villain theyÕve come to love and hate from the original trilogy was now much more relatable. His wife who he swore to protect was dead, his body was a memory, and his best friend left him for dead. Anakin's world has completely changed, and because of his actions, the galaxy itself suffered an apocalypse of its own. The descending mask represents the darkness slowly closing in and masking VaderÕs faceÉfor a time.

Festival - Yoda's Trump Card

i

Festival mode, as stated by Susan Napier, is a reversal of roles and of the norm. When Yoda busted out that lightsaber, ALL BETS WERE OFF.

Hoth

1 of 16 i

So here it is. My SVA Junior Thesis project. Retelling the story of Hoth in its 'true' form! A dorky Jedi-in-training Luke Skywalker tells his dangerous journey out in the frozen plains...or was it really so dangerous? This is only one page of 16 from the project, so be sure to check out the rest! And check back for the COLORED pages soon!

Hoth Colored Test Run

i

OK, so this is more of a work in progress than a finished page. I wanted to take a break from my Clone Wars comic (for many reasons, but I won't get into that), and decided to try my hand in a new type of coloring. I've received a lot of helpful feedback from a lot of different people, and I haven't yet gotten a chance to try out a lot of their suggestions because they're time consuming, but I'll be keeping all of them in mind when I pick this back up. For anyone who doesn't recognize it, It's page 2 from my Hoth Thesis comic.

Story of Red

1 of 2 i

Because I needed a break from the serious/labor-intensive Clone Wars comic. But it's still on the way! The idea was inspired from playing countless hours of XBOX LIVE with my very own Rogue Squadron: KSM. So special thanks to Fallon, Jay, Salvador, Steven, Benjamin, and Gibothy. Page 1 of 2.

Story of Red

2 of 2 i

I think it shows how drunk I was when I inked this page, but hey-- it had to get done. And I sort of like that I got to let loose a little. Hope you all enjoy! --THAT'S WHAT SHE SAID!

Tribute to Episode III

i

So I did this a while back, combining two drawings. One is a cartoony/linear Obi-Wan Kenobi, and the other is a realistic Anakin Skywalker. I dig it. =)
